Jakarta, June 27 -- President Prabowo Subianto has stated that new and renewable energy sources will be Indonesia's future despite its abundance of oil and gas reserves.
"We have substantial oil and gas reserves and existing technologies allow us to exploit it promptly. Still, renewable energy, especially solar energy, is our future," the president stated on Thursday.
While inaugurating the simultaneous operation of geothermal power plants (PLTP) and solar power plants (PLTS) in 15 provinces, Prabowo highlighted solar power as a new hope for a brighter future for Indonesia.
He noted that new and renewable energy sources will also enable remote islands and villages to generate electricity.
