Jakarta, Dec. 23 -- The government has been urged to implement fair and non-discriminatory policies to ensure the sustainability of Indonesian journalism amid ongoing disruption in the media industry.
"If, for example, we ask for state involvement, the key is finding a balance - how the government can participate without undermining our independence. Any policy must not be discriminatory. It must be fair," Member of the Expert Council of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI), Wahyu Muryadi, said in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Wahyu said government involvement in policy formulation reflects the growing challenges faced by the media industry, including mass layoffs and the rapid expansion of social media platforms.
