Bogor, West Java, Feb. 2 -- President Prabowo Subianto urged regional governments to safeguard Indonesia's historical sites, warning that neglecting symbols of the nation's independence struggle risks eroding collective memory and weakening respect for the country's hard-won sovereignty.
Speaking at the 2026 National Coordination Meeting of central and regional governments in Bogor, West Java, on Monday, Prabowo said some local administrations had allowed historic sites to be dismantled or repurposed without regard for their national significance.
