Jakarta, Oct. 23 -- During a bilateral meeting with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto announced that Portuguese, Brazil's national language, will be introduced in Indonesian schools.

He said the initiative aims to strengthen relations between the peoples of Indonesia and Brazil.

"As a sign of how important Brazil is to us, I have decided that Portuguese will become one of the priority languages taught in schools," Prabowo stated during the meeting at the Merdeka Palace on Thursday.

He instructed Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu'ti and Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto to design a curriculum and introduce Portuguese language classes...
