Jakarta, July 29 -- President Prabowo Subianto condoled the death of former top minister and renowned economist Kwik Kian Gie on Monday evening.

"My condolences for the passing of Kwik Kian Gie. January 11, 1935 - July 28, 2025," the President said in a post on his Instagram handle @prabowo on Tuesday.

The post was accompanied by a black-and-white picture of the former minister.

Gie, who was born in Pati, Central Java, on January 11, 1935, and had Chinese roots, transitioned from entrepreneurship to national politics, briefly serving as deputy speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) in October 1999.
