Jakarta, Sept. 25 -- Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto was personally hosted by Canadian Governor General Mary Simon in Ottawa on Wednesday, marking the start of his diplomatic agenda in Canada.

Prabowo arrived at Rideau Hall, the governor general's historic residence, where he was greeted by Ken MacKillop, secretary to the governor general, before holding a high-level meeting with Simon in the Large Drawing Room.

In a statement Thursday, Indonesia's Cabinet Secretariat described the reception as a sign of "Canada's highest regard for Indonesia." It noted that despite the brief nature of Prabowo's visit, Simon received him in person - a gesture seen as a mark of respect for Indonesia's close diplomatic ties with Canada.
