Jakarta, Jan. 1 -- President Prabowo Subianto observed New Year's Eve with disaster evacuees in South Tapanuli, North Sumatra, on Thursday, choosing a quiet celebration of national songs and prayer over traditional fireworks to show solidarity.
Visiting the Kodam I/Bukit Barisan Health Post, the President led evacuees in singing national songs such as "Tanah Air" and "Rayuan Pulau Kelapa."
The modest gathering was intended to offer hope to residents displaced by recent natural disasters.
"Happy New Year, 2026. May the Almighty always grant the best to all of us," President Prabowo told the crowd.
Accompanied by several ministers, he led a joint prayer for those affected by ongoing crises across the country.
