Jakarta, Sept. 23 -- French President Emmanuel Macron formally recognized the State of Palestine during a high-level United Nations conference Monday, drawing a standing ovation from Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and his delegation.
"The time has come," Macron said at the High-Level Conference on Palestine and the Two-State Solution. "True to the historic commitment of my country to peace in the Middle East, I declare that today France recognizes the State of Palestine."
Macron's declaration was met with applause across the UN Assembly Hall, including from Palestinian envoy Riyad Mansour. President Prabowo and members of the Indonesian delegation stood in support following the announcement.
