Beijing, Sept. 3 -- Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto met Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on Wednesday, pledging to strengthen bilateral ties following a military parade marking the 80th anniversary of China's victory in the war of resistance against Japan.

The meeting took place at the Great Hall of the People shortly after Xi hosted a luncheon for foreign leaders attending the event in Tiananmen Square.

Prabowo expressed regret over missing the recent Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit, citing domestic challenges, but said Indonesia's situation is stabilizing.

"Indonesia and China are true friends. Our relationship is a top priority in Indonesia's foreign policy," he told Xi.
