Badung, Bali, Aug. 2 -- Fifth Indonesian president and chair of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), Megawati Soekarnoputri, has affirmed that her party does not intend to be an opposing force, but play a balancing role in government.

"Our role is to ensure that national development efforts do not veer from the Constitution," she said in her speech at the closing of the 6th PDIP Congress at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center in Badung district, Bali province, on Saturday.

The former president highlighted that the congress has decided that the once-ruling party will act as a critical, balancing faction that monitors the Prabowo Subianto government's compliance with the 1945 Constitution.
