Jakarta, Feb. 18 -- Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian said the number of people displaced by floods and landslides in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra has fallen sharply from more than 2 million to 12,994.

"The number of displaced residents has decreased from over 2 million to around 12,994 people who are still living in tents," he said at a coordination meeting in Jakarta on Wednesday.

In Aceh, where the number of displaced residents had previously reached 1.4 million, 12,144 people remain in evacuation tents.

In North Sumatra, of the 53,523 residents initially displaced, 850 are still in temporary shelters. All of them are staying at a single site in Central Tapanuli District.
