Jakarta, Sept. 15 -- An Indonesian official emphasized that the Presidential Office or any executive institution cannot interfere with the General Elections Commission's (KPU) decision to keep presidential candidate documents, including educational certificates, confidential.
Deputy Minister of State Secretariat Juri Ardiantoro said the KPU is an independent body that operates without influence from other institutions.
"They cannot be influenced by any other institution, including the executive branch. They are an independent institution, and we respect that," he said in Jakarta on Monday.
He noted that the KPU had already explained the policy and that any further inquiries should be directed to the commission.
