Depok, W Java, June 21 -- The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) has said that Law No.35 of 2009 on Narcotics needs to be amended to strengthen the country's war on drugs.

This is considering that the types of new psychoactive substances (NPS) have increased significantly around the world, it explained.

Head of prevention and community empowerment at the BNN-Depok Office, Purwoko Nugroho, said that there is a need to revise the drug law to provide BNN and other law enforcement agencies additional legal basis to fight drug crimes.

Speaking in Depok, West Java, on Friday, he said that, as of June 2025, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) has recorded 1,350 types of new psychoactive substances (NPS) around the world.
