Jakarta, Nov. 6 -- The Islamic organization Muhammadiyah has voiced support for naming Indonesia's second president, Soeharto, a national hero in recognition of his role in the nation's independence struggle and long-term development.
In a statement received Wednesday, Muhammadiyah Central Executive Board Chairman Dadang Kahmad said Soeharto was a key historical figure who deserved acknowledgment for his dedication and contributions to the country's progress.
"We support Soeharto's nomination as a national hero because of his significant services to the Republic of Indonesia, from the independence revolution to the development era," Kahmad said.
