Jakarta, July 4 -- Indonesia's Tourism Ministry has decided to step up supervision along the Mount Rinjani hiking trail, following a review of safety and supervision protocols with related parties.

The review was prompted by the death of a Brazilian tourist while hiking on the trail.

"We avoid this incident from recurring. The ministry will increase supervision and evaluation to ensure all tourism activities in extreme tourist attractions follow applicable regulations and standards through monitoring by related elements," the ministry's deputy for destination and infrastructure development, Hariyanto, said on Thursday.
