Jakarta, Jan. 7 -- Deputy Speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Eddy Soeparno has stressed the importance of ensuring regional readiness for the Waste-to-Energy (WtE) initiative, which is set to be launched in 34 locations across Indonesia.
He said regional governments need to prepare for a transition period during the rollout phase, particularly to anticipate potential increases in waste volumes during Eid al-Fitr and other major holidays.
"Preparation during this transition period can be carried out by strengthening basic waste management services, optimizing waste collection, organizing temporary disposal sites, and taking firm action against illegal dumping," he said in Jakarta on Wednesday.
