Jakarta, Dec. 26 -- Deputy Speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Eddy Soeparno has called for the immediate ratification of the Climate Change Management Bill following a series of catastrophic natural disasters across Indonesia in 2025.

Soeparno argued that accelerating the legislation is essential to strengthen disaster mitigation as climate change impacts intensify.

He noted that 2025 was marked by severe "climate anomalies," including unseasonal flooding that blurred the lines between the rainy and dry seasons.

"Major floods struck Bali for the first time in nearly 60 years, while thousands were killed by flash floods in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra," Soeparno said in a statement on Friday.
