Ternate, July 27 -- Mount Dukono in North Halmahera, North Maluku, has erupted once again, spewing volcanic ash up to 3,500 meters above its summit and prompting authorities to prohibit all activities within a 4-kilometer radius.
"The eruption occurred at around 3:38 p.m. local time (GMT+9), with an ash column reaching a height of 3,500 meters," said Bambang Sugiono, an officer at the Dukono Volcano Observation Post (PGA Dukono), in a written statement received in Ternate on Sunday.
The ash column appeared white to gray in color, with thick intensity drifting toward the northeast. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 33 mm and lasted 279.84 seconds.
