Jakarta, July 25 -- State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi stated that the claim about a plan to impose a tax on money gifts given in envelopes during wedding events is untrue and has not been implemented.

Hadi delivered the statement during a press conference at the Presidential Palace complex here on Friday, in response to widespread public discussion about the possibility of taxing cash envelopes at social events such as wedding celebrations.

"The Ministry of Finance, in this case the Directorate General of Taxes, has clarified the issue circulating in public. Regarding whether there will be a tax on cash gifts from wedding events, that does not exist, not yet," Hadi stated.
