Jakarta, March 6 -- Director of Zakat and Waqf Empowerment of the Ministry of Religious Affairs Waryono Abdul Ghafur underscored the need to improve the quality of waqf (Islamic endowment) administrators in Indonesia to optimize waqf management.

In his remarks at the Waqf Talk 2025 event in Jakarta on Thursday, he noted that so far, not many waqf administrators in Indonesia have a strong educational background related to waqf.

"Those with a pesantren (Islamic boarding school) background are rare," he pointed out.

Ghafur expressed optimism that the waqf reception would reach a large amount, surpassing Rp200 trillion (around US$12.24 billion), in line with improving the people's piety.
