Jakarta, Aug. 6 -- The Ministry of Forestry has partnered with the Global Wildlife Foundation (GWF) to manage the land donated by President Prabowo Subianto in Takengon, Aceh, for elephant conservation.

Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni told reporters at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Wednesday that the land, formerly an industrial forest concession owned by Prabowo, will be turned into an elephant sanctuary.

"President Prabowo initially handed over 20 thousand hectares, which was later expanded to 80 thousand hectares," he said.

The GWF, now based in Liechtenstein, Europe, is an organization mandated by King Charles III of the United Kingdom to participate in the elephant conservation program, according to Antoni.
