Indonesia, Aug. 3 -- The Forestry Ministry on Saturday vowed zero tolerance for residents found intentionally setting fires in West Kalimantan amid the peak dry season in the province, which usually extends from July until the end of August.
"As the BMKG (Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency) has warned, West Kalimantan is facing the peak of the dry season. So, we declare no tolerance for burning," Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq said.
Speaking at an emergency briefing on wildfire mitigation here, he said that a local regulation allowing slash-and-burn farming on two hectares of land contradicts the national regulation.
