Jakarta, Oct. 22 -- Primary and Secondary Education Minister Abdul Mu'ti emphasized that the compulsory English subject in elementary schools will focus on building students' confidence in using the language for communication.
"It is not about learning English as a science, but as a means of communication. Therefore, at the elementary level, there is no need to emphasize grammar too much," he said during a press briefing on Wednesday evening.
He reminded teachers not to focus excessively on students' grammar mistakes when they speak English. This approach aligns with the learning objectives at the elementary school level, particularly for grades 1 to 3, which still prioritize reading, writing, and numeracy skills.
