Jakarta, March 20 -- Legislator Amelia Anggraini has asked that the new Military (TNI) Law, which seeks to extend the armed forces' authority, be strictly monitored to avoid any violation of civil rights.

"The Parliament emphasizes that this expansion of authority must be conducted carefully, respecting democratic principles, and must not exceed the limits that could disrupt civilian supremacy," she said in a press release received by ANTARA here on Thursday.

Anggraini added that her faction agrees with the substance of the TNI Law draft as it could strengthen the military's position in protecting the state.
