Jakarta, April 30 -- Indonesia's House of Representatives (DPR) will begin discussions on the Domestic Workers' Protection (PPRT) Bill ahead of International Labor Day.
"This is a gift from the DPR to the workforce," said DPR Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad following a meeting with trade union representatives at the Parliamentary Complex in Jakarta on Wednesday.
He noted that DPR Speaker Puan Maharani and other parliamentary leaders have approved further deliberation of the bill.
Ahmad said that the DPR has submitted labor group inputs to the government, including recommendations for protecting workers from potential layoffs.
In response, the government has moved to establish a task force focused on employment termination issues.
