Jakarta, Nov. 10 -- The Indonesian government has said that the awarding of the National Hero title to Marsinah is unrelated to the reinvestigation of her 1993 murder.

State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi made the statement after the National Hero Award Ceremony at the State Palace in Jakarta on Monday, when asked whether the government would reopen the investigation into the case.

"I don't think it's related. As previously stated, today we are recognizing the contributions of prominent figures, especially our predecessors," he said.

He explained that the award was granted based on Marsinah's contributions and exemplary struggle as a symbol of workers' courage in fighting for justice.
