Jakarta, March 4 -- The Indonesian Navy (TNI-AL) has deployed soldiers from its Marine Corps to evacuate residents affected by the floods in regions across the Greater Jakarta area.

In a statement issued in Jakarta on Tuesday, head the of TNI-AL's Information Office, Commodore I Made Wira Hady, informed that the marine personnel have been sent to several areas in East Jakarta and Bekasi, West Java.

He added that the water level in the targeted areas of operation has reached two meters.

Hady said that the rescue teams have decided to prioritize the evacuation of children and the elderly from inundated homes using motorized inflatable boats.

The evacuees will be taken to nearby emergency posts for medical treatment.
