Jakarta, July 25 -- Statistics Indonesia (BPS) recorded that the number of people living in extreme poverty in Indonesia has declined to 2.38 million as of March 2025, marking a decline of 1.18 million compared to March 2024.
Deputy for Social Statistics at BPS, Ateng Hartono, noted here on Friday that extremely poor people accounted for 0.85 percent of Indonesia's total population as of March 2025. The rate represents a decrease of 0.41 percentage points from March 2024.
Hartono clarified that people classified as poor are those whose monthly per capita expenditure falls below the poverty line.
Meanwhile, extremely poor people are those with a per capita expenditure below US$2.15 per day, according to the World Bank's extreme poverty ...
