Jakarta, July 11 -- Elementary and Secondary Education Minister Abdul Mu'ti clarified that the literacy and numeracy assessment conducted during the 2025-2026 school orientation period will not determine whether students pass or fail.

"Do not view the literacy-numeracy assessment as a test, alright. This assessment is more like a preliminary step to gauge their reading and writing skills," the minister remarked here on Friday.

Mu'ti explained that the assessment results will instead help teachers identify children's skill levels at the start of the school year. This will enable teachers to formulate teaching methods that suit the students' abilities, helping them to grasp subjects better.
