Kudus, Central Java, Dec. 26 -- Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq confirmed that the Kudus District Government, Central Java, will face administrative sanctions for poor waste management at the Tanjungrejo Landfill.
"Kudus has not submitted reports to the National Waste Management Information System. Sanctions will be imposed to push improvements," he said during a site visit on Friday.
Nurofiq warned that the landfill's cliffside location is dangerous and stressed the need for proper terracing.
He reminded that open dumping has been banned since Law No. 18/2008, yet most regions still practice it, prompting nationwide sanctions to convert sites into controlled landfills.
The ministry will monitor Kudus for six months.
