Jakarta, July 18 -- Chairperson of the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM), Anis Hidayah, emphasized that the bill on the revision of the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP) must be modern and uphold a human rights perspective.

"The bill on the revision of KUHAP must ensure the new law is modern and has the human rights perspective," Hidayah stated during a discussion titled "KUHAP Revision and Human Rights Guarantees" here on Friday.

The Komnas HAM chairman stressed that the revision should be used to align Indonesia's criminal procedural law with human rights principles, since, according to Komnas HAM, the current KUHAP does not yet provide for them.
