Banda Aceh, Aceh, Aug. 30 -- Indonesia's National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) is investigating the death of Affan Kurniawan, an online motorcycle taxi driver, who was run over by a police vehicle during a protest in Central Jakarta on August 28.

"Komnas HAM has conducted an investigation and will soon provide recommendations to the relevant authorities," said Atnike Nova Sigiro, a commissioner at Komnas HAM, in Banda Aceh on Friday.

At a meeting with the Deputy Governor of Aceh, Atnike stressed the importance of police handling protests with care, prioritizing the safety of civilians. "Legal actions must be fair and respectful of human rights," she added.
