Meulaboh, Jan. 29 -- The Aceh Barat District Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has successfully extinguished 23.4 hectares of wildfires out of a total of 50.2 hectares burned across several locations.

"Currently, 26.8 hectares of burned land remain. Extinguishing efforts by the joint team are ongoing," said Acting Head of the Aceh Barat BPBD, Teuku Ronald, to reporters in Meulaboh on Thursday.

The increase in burned land was attributed to the spread of hotspots, which intensified the fires locally.

Furthermore, strong winds at each location caused the flames to spread rapidly, further expanding the affected area.
