Jakarta, July 23 -- The Jakarta provincial government will increase the number of accessible school buses for students with disabilities, which are specially designed for wheelchair users and the visually impaired, to 30 this year.
"There are currently 5 school buses specifically for students with disabilities, and we will add another 25 this year," head of the Jakarta Transportation Agency, Syafrin Liputo, said during a talk show themed "Jakarta's 5th Century Strategic Map Towards Top 50 Global Cities 2029" at Jakarta City Hall on Tuesday.
The buses, which were officially made operational in January 2024, are fitted with a hydraulic platform system for transporting wheelchairs onto the buses.
