Jakarta, Sept. 8 -- Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo confirmed that he had reached out to the Jakarta Regional Legislative Council (DPRD) to inquire about lawmakers' monthly housing allowances, which reportedly reach nearly Rp80 million (around US$4,900).
The financial facility has drawn public criticism following nationwide backlash against similar allowances for national legislators at the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR), which have since been withheld.
"I have communicated with the Jakarta DPRD, and they will convene a meeting to discuss the matter today. It should be noted that the authority in this context lies with the council," Pramono told the press in Central Jakarta on Monday.
