Jakarta, Oct. 14 -- Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo is set to issue a Jakarta regulation banning the sale of dog and cat meat for consumption.

This plan was announced after a meeting with the Dog Meat Free Indonesia (DMFI) organization at the Jakarta City Hall on Monday.

"There was a request to create a governor's regulation banning the consumption of dog meat in Jakarta," he said.

The regulation, according to him, will be part of the government's anticipatory measures against the spread of rabies in Jakarta.

He further said that if the ban requires a regional regulation, he would propose it to the Jakarta Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD).

"Hopefully, this initiative is welcomed by the legislature," he said.
