Jakarta, July 30 -- Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung on Tuesday promised to repair South Jakarta's Taman Puring Market after a massive fire on Monday evening destroyed at least 550 stalls in the market.

"The market has caught fire three times. We, of course, are preparing to repair it," he told journalists.

Governor Anung said that Taman Puring is vital since it is a people's market that serves local needs. Therefore, the Jakarta administration will prepare to repair the infrastructure that was gutted in the fire.

To put out the fire, which started at 6 p.m. local time on Monday, he coordinated with the South Jakarta mayor and other agencies, including the fire and rescue agency ( Gulkarmat ).
