Jakarta, July 30 -- The Indonesian Navy (TNI-AL) has begun evacuating residents from coastal areas in response to a tsunami warning issued after a powerful earthquake in eastern Russia, according to commander of TNI-AL's Fleet Command, Vice Admiral Denih Hendrata.

In a short message to ANTARA in Jakarta on Wednesday, he informed that the navy units carrying out these operations include a naval base in Gorontalo province, led by Lieutenant Colonel Hanny Chandra.

He added that the Gorontalo Naval Base has set up three disaster emergency posts as temporary shelters for evacuees, including one at its command center.
