Jakarta, Dec. 23 -- The Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) has received its newest frigate, KRI Prabu Siliwangi-321, from shipbuilder Fincantieri during the handover ceremony in Muggiano, Italy, on Monday (December 22) local time.

According to Indonesian Navy Chief of Staff Admiral Muhammad Ali, who represented the Navy in the ceremony, the new frigate is part of the Navy's mission to modernize its defence equipment.

"Modernizing the defence equipment sustainably reflected our commitment to preserving Indonesia's maritime security and sovereignty," Admiral Ali stated in his written remarks here on Tuesday.

During the handover ceremony, Ali also inducted Colonel Kurniawan Koes Atmadja as the inaugural commander of KRI Prabu Siliwangi-321.
