Jakarta, July 27 -- The Indonesian government has allocated 1,975 subsidized housing units to Muslim preachers and ulemas as a token of appreciation for their contributions to nation-building.
The decision was announced by Minister of Housing and Settlements Maruarar Sirait during the 50th anniversary celebration of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) in Jakarta on Saturday evening.
"Since its establishment on July 26, 1975, MUI has been a pillar of morality, a spiritual compass, and a key advisor to the government," Sirait said, explaining the reasoning behind the housing program.
