Jakarta, Oct. 17 -- Indonesia's Ministry of Agriculture will revitalize fertilizer factories to accelerate the country's food self-sufficiency program.
In a statement on Friday, Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman said the revitalization effort aims to boost production efficiency, ensure stable supplies, and make fertilizers more affordable for farmers.
He noted that the ministry will coordinate closely with state-owned fertilizer producer Pupuk Indonesia to realize the plan.
Sulaiman said the company has prepared 1.2 million tons of subsidized fertilizers for the current planting season, running from this month to March next year. The amount represents 259 percent of the minimum volume required by the government.
