Jakarta, Nov. 8 -- Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni announced that the Indonesian government is committed to granting 1.4 million hectares of forest rights to indigenous communities.

Antoni said the move reflects Indonesia's strong commitment to protecting the environment and supporting indigenous peoples who have long lived in these areas.

The statement was issued in Jakarta on Saturday following his participation in the Climate Summit in Belem, Brazil, on Thursday (Nov 6).

According to Antoni, the initiative is part of President Prabowo Subianto's broader concern for environmental conservation and the welfare of indigenous groups that have historically faced marginalization.
