Jakarta, Feb. 5 -- Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto unveiled the government's plan to cover the whole 11-percent value-added tax (VAT) on airfares during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr homecoming season.

He noted that the upcoming stimulus is far larger than the one applied during the Christmas 2025-New Year 2026 holiday period, when consumers still had to pay five percent of VAT.

"While the Christmas VAT stimulus covered only six percent of the tax, we have now decided to cover the full 11 percent for Eid flights," Hartarto told the press at his office in Jakarta on Thursday.

He further added that the Ministry of Finance is drafting a regulation to formalize the airfare VAT policy.
