Jakarta, Oct. 17 -- The Indonesian government has allocated Rp25 billion (around US$1.5 million) to audit 80 Islamic boarding school ( pesantren ) buildings identified as old and potentially unsafe.

After chairing a ministerial meeting on Friday, Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar said the audit is being conducted by the Task Force for the Structural Infrastructure of Pesantren Buildings.

Public Works Minister Doddy Hanggodo said the audit will be carried out in several phases due to the large number of pesantren nationwide.

He explained that the budget for reviewing the first batch of 80 pesantren stands at Rp25 billion.
