Jakarta, Sept. 9 -- The Gresik and Kendal Special Economic Zones (SEZs) are currently Indonesia's top two investment-performing SEZs, each recording more than Rp90 trillion (around US$5.5 billion) in total investment.
Susiwijono Moegiarso, Secretary of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, said Tuesday that Indonesia operates 25 SEZs - seven on Java and 18 outside the island.
Gresik SEZ has accumulated Rp100.85 trillion in investment as of the first half of 2025, with 32 industries providing jobs for about 41,000 people.
"PT Freeport Indonesia recently launched the world's largest single-line copper smelter in Gresik SEZ. It has already begun producing copper for both export and domestic industries," Moegiarso said.
