Indonesia, Nov. 17 -- Indonesia's unwavering support for Palestine reflects a commitment to settling a historical debt, as Palestine was among the first to recognize Indonesia's independence, Deputy Foreign Minister Anis Matta said on Monday.

"Our role in Palestine affairs stems not only from a constitutional mandate, religious solidarity, and humanitarian responsibility, but also from a debt born after President Soekarno pioneered the Asia-Africa Conference (in 1955)," he stated in Makassar.

He delivered the remarks while opening an international seminar at Makassar State Islamic University, themed "President Prabowo Subianto's Key Role in Promoting Peace in Gaza."
