Jakarta, Jan. 5 -- Indonesia's National Police Commission (Kompolnas) plans to strengthen its institutional independence in 2026, a move it says is crucial to improving external oversight of the national police force amid persistent public scrutiny and demands for greater accountability.
Speaking at a press conference in Jakarta on Monday, Kompolnas member Mochammad Choirul Anam said the push to reinforce the commission's independence has been discussed internally for years, but concrete steps are now being taken to turn the idea into institutional reform.
