Jakarta, Sept. 11 -- Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) Puan Maharani has urged the government to move quickly to deliver emergency assistance to victims of severe floods in Bali that have left at least 14 people dead and two others missing.
"The government must act immediately to secure the basic needs of residents from the very first day," Maharani said in a statement issued in Jakarta on Thursday.
The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) reported that the death toll had reached 14 by Thursday morning, while two people remained unaccounted for in Denpasar.
"These floods have claimed lives, destroyed homes, disrupted trade, and even halted tourism, which is Bali's economic backbone," Maharani said.
