Jakarta, Jan. 19 -- Indonesia's mangrove coverage increased by 15,164 hectares to 3,455,628 hectares in 2025, according to the Ministry of Environment.

The ministry's Director of Land Ecosystem Protection and Management Puji Iswari said on Monday that the figure is reflected in the 2025 National Mangrove Map, which was formalized on December 23, 2025.

She said mangrove forests are found in all provinces except Highland Papua, with South Papua recording the largest coverage at 622,288 hectares.

Other provinces with extensive mangrove areas include West Papua, Central Papua, East Kalimantan, and Riau, she added.
