Jakarta, June 22 -- Foreign Minister Sugiono said on Saturday that 96 Indonesian citizens and the Iranian spouse of one Indonesian, who joined the government's first phase of evacuation from Iran, had arrived safely in Baku, Azerbaijan.

They traveled for 16 hours from Iran to reach the border gate, then continued on to Baku, the capital and largest city of Azerbaijan, he said at a virtual press briefing held from Istanbul, Turkiye.

"Alhamdulillah (Thank God). The first phase of our evacuation mission has so far gone well," he said, adding that three of the 96 evacuees are staff members of the Indonesian Embassy.
